My name is Alex, I am 26 years old, and I am a graduate of the University of Wisconsin-Madison, majoring in History, Economics, and Classical Humanities. I was born in Belarus and immigrated to the United States in 1992. I lived in the Chicago suburbs until I left for university. I returned to the Chicago area in 2009, and in January of 2012, I moved to New York City. In my free time, I enjoy reading, cycling, hiking, chess, snowboarding, and conversations with my sibling and friends. I love good movies and comedy shows–the Greek theater of our time. I am ethnically Russian and Jewish but am an Eastern Orthodox Christian by faith.
I began this blog to keep up my writing skills while I am out of school. I have also discovered that the very act of communicating one’s ideas to others helps one think better. So, I have made it a discipline to express a few thoughts on a semi-daily basis in writing. While there are plenty of frivolous personal blogs as well as serious academic blogs on the internet, I have sought to strike a middle course and make my blog a plainly-written and approachable journal of my stroll through the ideas, activities, and personalities of the past.
